Frequently Asked Questions

Do I bring my Pets food ... ?
We prefer you bring your pets regular diet from home.

Our goal is to keep your pets stay as normal as possible.

Please bring only the amount of food you think your pet will need.

It should be labeled and in an air tight container.

We do not have room to store large bags of food.

We will feed the raw diet providing you bring each meal bagged and ready to serve.

There is a $1.00 a day extra charge for this service.

Can I bring my dog's bed and toys?
Please bring a clean bed or blanket for your dog.

We are sorry but we cannot accept large stuffed beds of any kind.

Toys are fine as long as they are large enough to not be washed down the drains.

Top Dog, however, is not responsible for lost or destroyed toys and bedding.

What if my dog requires medication?

Medications that can be mixed in the food or that the dog will willing eat will be administered at no additional charge.

All other medication will incur an additional charge of $1.00 per day.

Please label all medications clearly and include what the medication is for.

How do I find out what vaccinations my Pet has had... ?
Your Veterinarian should give you a receipt or certificate showing what vaccinations were administered, the date they were given and the date they expire.

You may bring a copy with you or have your vet call the kennel and verify the shot records.

Required Shots: DHPP and Rabies.

Bordetella is given at your discretion, however, the kennel is not responsible if your dog has or hasn't  had the bordetella shot since the shot only covers 3 of the known 24 strains of bordetella.

Read about the new vaccine protocols and discuss it with your vet prior to your visit.

What if my Pet does not have all vaccinations required ... ?

If your pet needs vaccines they must be administered at least 2 weeks prior to arrival.

For the protection of all borders, we do not allow any pet to stay at TOP DOG if vaccinations are not current to the new vaccine protocol.

However, we do honor the new vaccine recommendation of every 3 years.

There are no exceptions to this policy.

Can you pick up or deliver my pet?
At this time Top Dog does not offer a delivery service.

Let us know if you would be interested in this service.

What if I arrive outside posted hours for check-in and out?
Our office hours provide for periods of quiet relaxation.

Inadequate "down time" can cause a variety of problems for our guests including nervousness, destructive behavior, poor appetite, diarrhea, excessive shedding, etc.

Our rest periods are therefore a crucial part of maintaining a stress-free atmosphere.

Since we are an owner operated 7-day a week operation, it also allows US time for relaxation as well.
We appreciate your observance of our office policy.

For security, the gates are locked at all times.
Requests for special check-in or out times will only be honored in an emergency.

For your convenience, we are open for pick up and drop off 365 days      a year, which does include Sundays and Holidays from:

7:30 to 11:30 A.M.

7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Tours are always available during these hours as well.

Are you open on Holidays?
We welcome your pets over all major holidays

There is a $2.00 a day rate increase over all major holidays with a minimum 3 day stay.

The rate increase applies to the day of the holiday, the day before and the day after.

You may pick up and drop off during our regular hours, however all pets are charged a full days board for holidays.

Major holidays include Memorial day, Easter, Spring and Fall Break,      4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years

How often will my dog get to go outside ... ?
Your dog will have access to an outside run during his entire stay.

If you are concerned that your dog won't eliminate in his outdoor run, please discuss it with us during check in, and schedule him daily playtime.

For a small additional daily charge he may go out to our large fenced in play yards to play.

Are the kennels under cover  or outside ...?
   Sleeping quarters are indoors.

The kennel is insulated which keeps them cool in Summer and warm in Winter.

Each kennel has it's own private attached outdoor run which is securely locked, and nicely shaded.

The kennel is heated and air-conditioned.

My dog has never boarded before ...or has had a bad boarding experience before...?

The schipperkes living here at Top Dog are happy and content.

This offers your pet a good environment to come into.

Rest assured if your dog requires it, we will give him lots of reassurance and extra hugs!

Consider bringing the dog in to board just for the day prior to his longer stay.

Leave your pet in a happy, calm and confident manner.

Other helpful tips:
During warmer months, all guests must be on a topical flea & tick prevention such as Frontline, and be on heartworm preventative.

All pets are checked upon entering the kennel.

If parasites are found, the pet will be bathed and dipped and the charge added to the boarding bill.

If the pet is extremely matted or dirty, it will be groomed and the charge added to the boarding bill. This helps us keep a clean kennel!
We'll be happy to bathe or groom your dog before check out.
Be sure to request this service when you make your reservation.

Please label EVERYTHING with your pet's name.

Top Dog cannot be held responsible for lost,                                    damaged or destroyed items left at the kennel.
